Lost in the Noise: How I'm Reclaiming my Time and Attention (and how you can too.)

Often feel scattered & overwhelmed? Me Too...

Do you ever feel like you're juggling a million things at once? You're constantly switching between tasks, feeling overwhelmed, and never fully present in any one moment? Yeah, me too. It's a common struggle in our fast-paced, always-connected world. We’re conditioned to think multitasking is the key to productivity, but my experience is that it often leaves me feeling more scattered than ever.

I often felt like a hamster on a wheel, running and running but never really getting anywhere. It's exhausting. And honestly, sometimes it makes me feel disconnected from the people I love most. How often are we physically present, but mentally distracted by our to-do list or the never-ending notifications pinging on our phones?

The Problem with Multitasking


We're told that multitasking is efficient, that it's the way to get more done in less time. But the truth is, our brains aren't wired for it. Research actually shows that multitasking decreases productivity and increases stress. When we try to do too many things at once, we end up doing everything poorly. We switch between tasks so rapidly that we never truly focus on any one thing, leading to lower quality work and increased frustration.

The Impact on our Relationships


This constant state of "on" doesn't just affect our work; it impacts every aspect of our lives. It affects our sleep, our mood, and most importantly, our relationships. When we're constantly distracted, we can't give our loved ones the undivided attention they deserve. And that can lead to feelings of isolation, guilt, and disconnection. I know I've been guilty of this, and I'm actively trying to change.

How I'm Reclaiming my Time & Attention


I've realized that true productivity isn't always about doing more; sometimes it's about doing less, and doing what truly matters, and doing it well.


It takes time and discipline. I'm still learning, but here are some strategies I'm implementing:

Making Time for Stillness

I'm trying daily to find a moment to myself, without distractions. I use this time to ground my thoughts and emotions, pray and shift my mindset. Even 5-10 minutes can make such a big difference and helps shift my perspective.

One Thing at a Time

I've started prioritising my tasks and focusing on the most important ones first. I tackle one thing at a time instead of managing multiple unfinished tasks.

Prioritise Connection

This is a big one! I'm working on creating clear boundaries between work, family, and personal time. It's not always easy, but it's essential for maintaining balance.

Turn off non-essential Notifications

Turning off non-essential notifications on my phone has been a game-changer. It's amazing how much calmer I feel when I'm not constantly bombarded with distractions.

Simplify & Declutter

I regularly clear out clutter and non-essential items from my home. Keeping a simplified, organised home helps me maintain a calmer household.

Slow Down

This is perhaps the most challenging, but also the most rewarding. I'm trying to rush less, slow my mind down and savor the little moments, to be present with my family and friends, and to appreciate the simple things in life.

Finding Your Balance


Finding the right balance between productivity, intentionality, and meaning is a personal journey and we’re all on our unique paths. I'm hoping we can all find the sweet spot where productivity, intentionality and significance meet.
